A Year 5 student from Uplands Community Primary School is cutting his long hair to raise money for a school project and support a charity.
Noah Townsend, 10, aims to raise £500 to help complete a forest experience area at his school. He will have his hair cut on Wednesday, June 19. The money raised will go to the school, and his hair will be donated to the Little Princess Trust, which provides real-hair wigs to children and young people up to 24 years old who have lost their hair due to cancer treatment and other conditions.
This isn’t the first time Noah has used a haircut for charity. In 2021, during the pandemic, he raised nearly £600 for the school’s PTA with a similar initiative.
When asked why he chose to do it again, Noah said, “There are other people who need my hair more than I do, and raising money for the school will benefit other children for a long time. I really love my school, and having the forest experience area done would just be amazing.”
Noah’s mother, Faye, explained that the school has been striving to complete the forest experience area and is currently part of a Tesco blue token scheme, in addition to other fundraising efforts.
“Noah believes that if you can help, you should,” Faye added. “He has been growing his hair for several years and is easily recognizable with his long ponytail.”
