Attending the Essence Festival is a significant achievement for Johnson. “Being here is a dream come true for anyone involved in black culture businesses,” she said. “This is my first time at Essence Fest with my brand. I applied last year but wasn’t approved. So, it’s a huge honor to be here.”

Her hair jelly product, Curls Best Friend, was a standout at the festival, quickly selling out. “We did a wash-and-go demonstration on one of my models, which drew a huge crowd to my booth. The product works great, smells wonderful, and is all-natural,” Johnson explained.

Johnson’s business philosophy includes giving back to the community. She helps homeless individuals who can’t afford hair services. “I allow my clients to recommend people in need, and I take care of them,” she said.

In addition, Johnson runs an educational program for young girls and teenagers, teaching them about healthy hair care. She aims to boost their confidence and encourage them to embrace their natural hair. “I want them to know they can embrace their natural hair, be confident, and learn to take care of it without relying on cultural norms,” Johnson said.
