Hair quality is closely linked to overall well-being and often, personal confidence. However, post-menopause, hormonal changes can significantly affect hair health.

Fortunately, several methods can improve hair quality as oestrogen levels decline. Pamela Petrorius, CEO of All Shook Up Hair Salons, shared insights with GB News on enhancing hair elasticity through scalp care.

Pamela emphasized that massaging and washing the scalp can enhance elasticity. “A morning and evening massage/brushing routine with an appropriate brush will exfoliate dead skin cells from your scalp and help regulate natural oils, nourishing your hair,” she explained. “Brushing dry hair preserves elasticity. The quality of hair depends on the health of its root.”

Scalp care is crucial for beautiful hair, and refining your shower routine can make a significant difference. Pamela highlighted the importance of scalp brushing to stimulate oxygen and blood flow. “A healthy diet needs help to send nutrients to your scalp, nourishing the follicles and feeding your hair,” she said.

Double cleansing is another beneficial technique for healthier hair. “A thorough cleaning routine involves using products for their maximum benefit with double cleansing, leaving the second application on long enough for the science of the product to take effect,” Pamela advised. “This routine requires three to five minutes of product absorption for maximum results, followed by an appropriate conditioner to seal the cuticle.”

Rinsing hair with cold water also helps seal the cuticle after showering. “Cold water rinsing benefits the nervous system, which directly affects hair quality,” noted Pamela.

Overwashing hair is unnecessary; daily rinsing can remove calcium build-up and free radicals. “Overwashing can strip natural oils, leaving hair unbalanced,” she cautioned.

Generally, it’s recommended to wash hair once or twice a week, though individual needs may vary based on hair type.
