Robbinsdale Shop Boosts Confidence with Free Medical Wigs

by Madonna

A Robbinsdale business is making medical wigs accessible to those who need them but can’t afford the high costs.

Greater Grace Hair Loss Solutions and Trichology Center, owned by Lequilla Walker, offers help for individuals dealing with hair loss or thinning. Walker, a certified trichologist, specializes in hair and scalp health and provides a range of cranial prostheses, commonly known as medical wigs.

“I grew up in a hair salon, surrounded by my mom and aunts who did hair,” Walker shared. Though she initially followed in their footsteps, she soon realized she wanted to make a bigger impact. “Doing hair wasn’t enough for me. I wanted to help others in a more meaningful way.”

Walker’s personal struggle with hair loss, due to an autoimmune disorder, inspired her to pivot towards trichology and medical wigs. She reflected on her own experiences, which led her to create a welcoming space for others facing similar challenges.

“It was often embarrassing to go to a salon and have someone work on my hair,” Walker recalled. “I wanted to offer a place where people who felt like I did could feel comfortable.”

At Greater Grace, Walker takes a personalized approach with each client, carefully determining whether they need treatments or selecting the right cranial prosthesis. “We go through several wigs until we find the one that truly represents who they are,” she explained.

Clients like Darlene Taylor, who visited on Monday, appreciate the thoughtful process. “At first, I felt sensitive about my hair,” Taylor said. “But it’s important to have confidence in yourself. It’s not just about the hair, but in many ways, it is.”

However, private solutions like these can be costly, especially when not covered by insurance. While most insurance plans do cover cranial prostheses, some do not. For those without coverage, Walker offers assistance. If a client qualifies, they can receive a medical wig from Greater Grace at no cost, making this vital resource available to those who might have thought it out of reach.

To further support this initiative, Greater Grace is seeking donations to help purchase medical wigs for those in need. The business also contributes a percentage of each sale towards funding these wigs.

If you’re interested in supporting this cause or want to consult with Walker for your own hair care needs, you can visit Greater Grace’s website or contact them at (763) 357-5266.

Greater Grace Hair Loss Solutions is located in Robbinsdale Town Center at 4080 W Broadway #128.
