Britney Spears recently revealed a shocking incident in which she accidentally burned off her hair, eyebrows, and eyelashes. The pop icon, 42, shared the story on Instagram earlier this week, though the post has since been deleted, according to multiple reports.
Spears explained that the accident occurred in the spring when she attempted to light her fireplace, a task usually handled by her security team. In the process, she suffered second- and third-degree burns to her face, losing a significant portion of her hair and eyebrows. At the time of the mishap, Spears was alone, as her boyfriend, Paul Richard Soliz, was asleep.
After the accident, the singer treated herself by applying ice to her face and enduring the pain for seven hours. Spears eventually took several Tylenol tablets before going to sleep, without seeking medical assistance.
The incident comes in the wake of Spears’ divorce from her third husband, Sam Asghari, after just 14 months of marriage. Asghari filed for divorce in the summer of 2023, and the pair settled shortly thereafter. Reports have surfaced indicating concerns for Spears’ mental health and well-being, with sources telling TMZ in May that the singer was facing “grave danger” due to ongoing mental health and substance abuse struggles.
In brighter news, Spears’ memoir, The Woman in Me, recently marked its one-year anniversary. The bestselling book, which delves into her difficult experiences with the media, her tumultuous romance with Justin Timberlake, and the controversial conservatorship that governed her life for over a decade, is now set to be adapted into a feature film. Jon Chu, director of Crazy Rich Asians and Wicked, has been tapped to bring the story to the big screen, with Marc Platt producing.
Spears expressed her excitement about the project, saying she has been working on it with Platt and is eager to share more details with her fans in the near future.
