by Madonna

Sydney Sweeney is known for her versatility on screen, but her latest transformation is perhaps one of her most striking yet. The Euphoria star gave fans a behind-the-scenes glimpse of her new look from the set of her upcoming boxing biopic, where she portrays the legendary boxer Christy Martin.

In an Instagram post, Sweeney revealed a new, edgy style with brown, frizzy bangs, paired with a shot of her flexing her toned biceps while donning ’90s workout gear. “Well, the cat’s out of the bag thanks to some paps in bushes,” Sweeney wrote, referring to how her look was first unveiled through leaked photos. “Here’s a little BTS from my film I’m working on right now.”

Sweeney opened up about the dedication and training required for the role. “Over the past few months, I’ve been immersed in training to bring to life the story of an incredible woman — a true champion who fought battles both inside and outside the ring,” she shared. “Her journey is a testament to resilience, strength, and hope, and I’m honored to step into her shoes to share her powerful story with you all.”

Christy Martin, whom Sweeney portrays, is one of the most celebrated female boxers in history. She accumulated 49 wins, 7 losses, and 3 draws over a career that spanned more than two decades, from 1989 to 2012. Known as “The Coal Miner’s Daughter,” Martin broke barriers for women in the sport, becoming a prominent figure in boxing and inspiring many with her tenacity in the ring.

However, Martin’s personal life is as gripping as her professional accomplishments. She married her coach, Jim Martin, in 1991, but their relationship ended in horror when Jim attempted to murder her in 2010. Christy survived the brutal attack, and Jim was eventually convicted of second-degree attempted murder. Martin later found happiness again and is now married to Lisa Holewyne, a former rival in the boxing world.

Sweeney’s boxing biopic will be directed by Australian filmmaker David Michôd, known for his work on films like Animal Kingdom, The Rover, War Machine, and The King. Michôd’s expertise in bringing gritty, emotional stories to life promises to make this biopic a compelling watch. The film boasts an impressive supporting cast, including Ben Foster (Leave No Trace), Merritt Wever (Marriage Story), Katy O’Brian (Love Lies Bleeding), and Ethan Embry (Grace and Frankie).

This biopic marks another high-profile project for Sydney Sweeney, who has been riding a wave of success. Following her critically praised performance in the docudrama Reality and the hit romantic comedy Anyone But You, Sweeney has cemented herself as one of Hollywood’s most versatile rising stars. She also starred in Madame Web, Sony’s latest foray into the superhero genre, and headlined the indie horror film Immaculate.

In addition to the Christy Martin biopic, Sweeney will appear in Ron Howard’s survival thriller Eden, which premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF) and features a star-studded cast, including Ana de Armas, Jude Law, and Vanessa Kirby. Sweeney will also headline the family drama Echo Valley alongside Julianne Moore. Meanwhile, fans of HBO’s Euphoria will be pleased to hear that production on the show’s long-anticipated third season is slated to begin in January.

With her portrayal of Christy Martin, Sweeney is diving into new, physically demanding territory that showcases her range and dedication as an actress. Her physical transformation, intense training, and passion for telling Martin’s remarkable story have already generated buzz, leaving fans eager for the film’s release.
