Park Ji-won, a member of the popular K-pop group fromis_9, openly shared that she underwent a hair transplant procedure during a recent appearance on a YouTube video. The video, which was released on the “Workman” channel on October 14, featured Park Ji-won alongside Baek Ji-heon as they visited Bohamsa, a well-known temple, and participated in a product planning meeting for women’s health.
During the meeting, Park Ji-won asked an official from an insurance company whether any of the ideas discussed would be adopted. The official responded that they would try to incorporate the ideas as much as possible. This led to a conversation about health-related products, during which Park Ji-won raised a personal question: “Do you offer insurance for hair loss?”
After a brief hesitation, she candidly confessed to having undergone a hair transplant, saying, “This is the first time I’m revealing it. I had a little bit of hair added to my bangs.” She went on to explain that her hair loss was due to the frequent hair styling, dyeing, and bleaching common in the entertainment industry.
When the insurance company official expressed concern about the potential public reaction, given her status as an idol, Park Ji-won responded confidently, saying, “What’s wrong with that?”
She further explained, “We often tie, dye, and bleach our hair, which caused some hair loss at the front. I only had a small amount of hair transplanted, but it was quite expensive.” Park Ji-won revealed that the procedure cost her between 2 to 3 million won, raising the question of whether insurance might cover such expenses.
Baek Ji-heon, who was present during the conversation, noted that for those with more significant hair loss, the cost could be considerably higher. In response, the insurance company official suggested, “In that case, it might be better to consider paying for a wig.”
Park Ji-won, however, questioned the practicality of a wig, asking, “Wouldn’t it feel a bit different, like wearing fake hair?” She then drew attention by pointing out that as part of a women’s health product plan, there might be different insurance subsidies available for hair loss.
This candid admission from Park Ji-won sheds light on the pressures idols face related to their appearance and the lengths some go to maintain their image.
