Sarah Weichler, cosmetician, knows a thing or two about laser skin treatments. In addition to her training, she found her own procedures to be quick, painless, and affordable. In order to help others receive world-class treatment in a clean and comfortable environment, she opened Studio Laser.
“I believed Sudbury and the surrounding areas deserved a place of its own,” says Weichler. “We always look to the ‘south’ for beauty inspirations and trends; I was travelling three hours for the best device and treatment. Working with CBAM (Canadian Board of Aesthetic Medicine) and the Alma team, I purchased both the Soprano ICE Platinum and TED.”
She continues, “While the Soprano ICE Platinum is a leading laser hair removal device, we also have an exciting development for hair restoration – the Alma TED. Standing for trans epidermal delivery, TED is new to North America, making it the only hair restoration device that is completely non-invasive and that has fast clinical results.”
Pattern hair loss (Androgenic Alopecia or AGA) is the most prevalent form of hair loss in men and women. AGA is related to hormones called androgens, particularly an androgen called dihydrotestosterone (DHT) which is a male hormone. Most hair loss is to do with a genetic sensitivity to DHT. Women can experience a surplus of DHT too, which can cause excessive hair growth.
Women that suffer from PCOS (polycystic ovarian syndrome) usually experience increased androgens of testosterone that convert to DHT. AGA can also affect women. Many factors for thinning and balding hair loss are related to age, hormones, genetics, and even diet changes.
TED is a treatment designed for both men and women experiencing hair loss and thinning. This innovative technique employs ultrasonic waves while the proprietary tip emits ultrasound frequencies, which allow the specialized serum to go deep into the skin without the use of needles, anesthetics, or invasive measures. The process, known as acoustic cavitation, increases the serum’s penetration into the skin by opening the stratum corneum, allowing the formula to reach deeper layers of the skin.
The outermost layer of the epidermis, known as the stratum corneum, consists primarily of dead skin cells and natural fats or lipids. This layer serves as a protective barrier against environmental exposure, acting as a “brick wall” to prevent moisture and large molecules from penetrating the skin.
TED utilizes a patented propriety tip for the procedure, which has undergone clinical validation through 20+ published studies since 2009. The propriety tip emits acoustic vibrations and frequency that generate micro-gaseous bubbles in the stratum corneum, resulting in a temporary disorganization of the lipid bilayer and increased permeability.
Air pressure is then applied in a “push and pull” motion to further drive the Alma Hair Care Formula deep into the dermis where the hair follicle resides. This formula comprises multiple hair growth peptides, amino acids, VEGF (a potent angiogenic growth factor), and extracts. The combination of these ingredients not only enhances growth rate but also provides essential nutrients for the follicle to thrive and anchors the hair in place.
TED has been in Europe (Alma International) for over a decade while Alma North American launched TED in late 2021. The first TED came to Canada last year, now there are over 20 TED devices alone in Ontario. Studio Laser has the only TED device north of Parry Sound.
When it comes to laser hair removal and hair restoration, Weichler says the most important thing to do is to rely on a trained professional that knows how to use the latest equipment while always prioritizing safety. Both the Soprano ICE Platinum (for hair removal) and the Alma TED (for hair restoration) are safe and effective, and both treatments work on all skin types and ethnicities (unlike many earlier generation lasers).
