7 anti-frizz tricks for curly hair that hairdressers recommend practicing at the beach

by Madonna

This compilation of anti-frizz tricks for curly hair curly hair I dedicate it to all my friends with curly hair who every summer write me whatsapps from the beach asking me for a habit or product that really works. Some of them even send me pictures illustrating the situation they describe as #BeauyDrama because they can’t find a trick to help them alleviate the tendency to frizz that curly hair suffers especially at the edge of the sea.

The anti-frizz key

For all of them, here are the recommendations that hairdressers confirm really work. And spoiler: “Frizz is controlled with hydration, hydration and hydration,” says Maria Baras, director of Cheska.

1. The trick for frizzy and curly hair: leave a bit of mask when washing

This is one of the most unexpected recommendations that stylist María Baras makes, but she confirms that it works. “In summer I always advise replacing conditioner with mask and in the case of curly hair it works to rinse well at the roots but leave a bit of mask on the ends to add weight and control the curl. And let it air dry, without heat sources,” she says.

2. Apply a mask on the beach (and braid your hair)

Taking advantage of sun exposure to get a moisturizing shock treatment can be an option. And although we’ll talk about the convenience of using sunscreen products with sunscreen later on, on occasion they can be replaced by a hydrating mask with rinse-off. Stylist Victoria Martín Bedia, from Victoria Salon recommends applying this mask to the hair before going down to the beach and braiding the hair so that the product penetrates better.

3. Oils with SPF

The application of protective hair sprays is a must for any hair, but in the case of curly hair, Baras advises especially oils with high sunscreen because “they leave the hair beautiful, control frizz and create a barrier to protect the hair”.

4. Direct your bangs (and let them air dry).

We’re not going to kid ourselves. “Bangs on the beach have a bad solution, but for curly hair, they’re a little easier to style,” Baras says. The expert advises to remove it from the forehead during beach or pool days -always wearing a cap or hat- and after showering, let it air dry but direct the bangs forward first.

5. Curl defining mask

Although curly hair has to deal with frizz in summer because by its nature it tends more to dryness (the main cause of frizz), the good news is that in places with humidity it’s easier to define the curl and it looks “juicier,” Baras points out. To enhance it, you can use a curl defining cream after washing or put into practice the trick advised by Alberto Sanguino, stylist at Llongueras stylist Alberto Sanguino advises: use a traditional mask, but without rinsing it out, to enhance the curly method. “With your head upside down, apply the mask to the mid-lengths and ends, spreading it with your fingers. Then rub with the towel to define the curl. The thicker and frizzier your hair is, the more mask you should apply,” she says.

6. Trim the ends before (not after)

Both Moncho Moreno and María Baras both agree in recommending that the cutting the ends before going to the beach. Firstly because, as Moreno points out, “split ends are a base for hair deterioration”. And secondly, adds Baras, “curls are better defined”. Both also recommend having a professional treatment before going to the beach. Any recommendations? Cheska ‘s protein treatment or Moncho Moreno’s Miracle Antifrizz with hyaluronic acid. Rosa Pinar, stylist at Fashion Avenuesays that, although anti-frizz products help, it is usually more effective to have a treatment such as collagen-based exoplasty or taninoplasty (an organic smoothing based on plant extracts).

7. Sleep with a satin scarf

It is an old school trick that can replace the use of silk pillowcases (which can be more complicated, especially on vacations away from home). Bea Guerrero, from Angela Navarrothat this avoids the rubbing that could increase frizzy hair. Another alternative is to sleep with your hair up or in a low bun.
