Jenna Fischer is embracing her post-chemotherapy hair with confidence and a touch of nostalgia.
The Office alum, 51, took to Instagram on April 16 to update fans on her hair journey following treatment for stage 1 triple-positive breast cancer. Posing with a fresh selfie, Fischer proudly showed off her naturally curly brown hair and newly grown bangs.
“I am borderline obsessed with my messy, uncontrollably curly post-chemo bangs,” she wrote. “They are giving me ’80s vibes all day and I’m here for it. Positive comments only because it’s what they [my bangs] deserve. They are the best.”
Fischer’s update received an outpouring of support from friends and fellow celebrities. Her Office Ladies podcast co-host Angela Kinsey replied, “I loooove it,” while actress Leslie Bibb cheered her on with, “I think you look f—— great.” Olivia Munn, who also faced a breast cancer diagnosis in 2023, added, “I’m so happy you’re loving it now! I am too.”
Fischer Reflects on Hair Loss During Treatment
Fischer first shared news of her diagnosis in October 2024, using Breast Cancer Awareness Month to reveal her journey. In an interview with Hoda Kotb on the Today show, she opened up about the emotional toll of hair loss during chemotherapy.
“When they told me I had to have chemo, the first thing I thought was, ‘I don’t want to throw up, and I don’t want to lose my hair,’” she said. “I did not throw up, but I did lose my hair.”
She described the process as uneven and unpredictable. “It comes out in fits and starts,” she recalled. “I started with a big bald patch on the side of my head. I would do this elaborate comb-over to cover it.”
Despite never having a dramatic “shave-your-head moment,” Fischer adapted by wearing wigs and hats during her treatment. Now, she’s celebrating her natural hair as it returns — slowly but steadily.
Cancer-Free and Embracing the Journey
Fischer was diagnosed in December 2023 after a routine mammogram and ultrasound led to further testing. She went on to complete 12 rounds of chemotherapy, three weeks of radiation, and continues receiving infusions of two additional medications.
Now cancer-free, Fischer has been sharing glimpses of her recovery with her followers. In January 2025, she posted a joyful photo on Instagram marking the one-year anniversary of her breast cancer surgery. The picture, taken in her hometown of St. Louis, shows her enjoying a cozy moment at her favorite hotel.
“Hair is growing back (slowly and wildly, but it’s growing),” she wrote, alongside a view of the Gateway Arch. “I spent the day in St. Louis surrounded by family doing a belated Christmas with grandparents and cousins… cozy robe, coffee, book, and that view!”
As she continues to heal, Fischer’s candid updates and optimistic spirit have resonated deeply with fans — many of whom see her not only as a beloved actress, but now as a powerful voice in the conversation around breast cancer recovery.
