New York, NY — George Clooney, known for his signature silver hair and Hollywood charm, is turning heads on Broadway — and not just because of his acting chops.
The 63-year-old Oscar winner has dyed his iconic salt-and-pepper locks dark for his role as legendary journalist Edward R. Murrow in the stage adaptation of Good Night and Good Luck. While the transformation is striking, Clooney isn’t holding back his opinion on the look.
“I know it’s not good,” he joked during an appearance on CBS Mornings on Monday. “You never get used to it.”
Speaking with co-host Gayle King, Clooney shared that he’s had gray hair for most of his adult life, and seeing himself with a youthful hue has been a shock — not just to him, but to his family, too.
“My wife thinks it’s funny,” he laughed. “And my 7-year-old twins, they just laugh at me. Because, honestly, nothing makes you look older than being 63 and dyeing your hair.”
Despite the cosmetic change, Clooney’s return to the spotlight is no laughing matter. His Broadway debut in Good Night and Good Luck, a play he also co-wrote and directed in its 2005 film adaptation, is a tribute to Murrow’s legacy and journalistic integrity.
“It’s as nerve-racking as you can imagine,” Clooney said of opening night. “There’s a huge responsibility with these words because they are Edward R. Murrow’s words. There are people in the audience who know these speeches by heart. I feel this enormous responsibility to honor them properly.”
Clooney’s move to Broadway marks a new chapter in a career that spans decades, from ER to Ocean’s Eleven and beyond. But even amid the nerves and new experiences, he credits his steady home life with helping him stay grounded.
The actor offered a glimpse into his family life with human rights attorney Amal Clooney, whom he married in 2014, and their twins, Ella and Alexander.
“Our kids are 7, about to be 8, which is a great age,” he said. “They’re curious and funny — every parent thinks their kids are amazing, but ours really do make us laugh.”
As for his marriage, Clooney remains as smitten as ever.
“We still haven’t had a fight,” he said with a smile. “We’re trying to find something to fight about!”
Reflecting on his relationship, he added, “I feel so extraordinarily lucky to have met this incredible woman. There isn’t a day that goes by where I don’t think I’m the luckiest man in the world. So it’s great.”
Whether it’s his comedic take on aging or his heartfelt admiration for his family, Clooney’s latest chapter proves that even with a new look, his authenticity never goes out of style.
