Indio, Calif. — Lana Del Rey debuted a striking new look during her performance at the Stagecoach Music Festival on Friday, April 25, trading her signature honey blonde tresses for rich brunette curls.
The 39-year-old singer took the stage in a butter-yellow lace dress, complete with a satin waist ribbon, while showcasing shoulder-length chestnut curls parted to the side. The hairstyle marks a notable departure from her long-held blonde aesthetic.
Del Rey had previously offered fans a glimpse of the transformation in an April 11 Instagram post, where she was seen reclining with her newly darkened hair tucked behind her ears. Though she has experimented with darker shades before, she had consistently worn a dark blonde hue in recent appearances, including her vintage-inspired look at the 2024 Variety Hitmakers Brunch.
During her Stagecoach set, Del Rey introduced a new track titled “57.5,” in which she made headlines with a surprising lyrical confession. “I kissed Morgan Wallen / I guess kissing me kind of went to his head,” she sang, adding, “If you want my secret to success / I suggest don’t go ATVing with him when you’re out west.” The singer prefaced the revelation by noting it would be “the last time I’m ever going to say this line.” Wallen, 31, has not responded to requests for comment regarding the lyrics.
The performance comes as Del Rey builds anticipation for her forthcoming country album. While she had previously announced the project would be titled Lasso, she hinted in a recent Instagram video that the name may be changed, though she has yet to confirm a new title.
In another post, Del Rey previewed a new single, “Bluebird,” explaining its metaphorical resonance. Describing the song as a reflection on emotional healing, she recounted an encounter with an injured bird that coincided with a call from an ex-partner. “I was kind of excited, but I didn’t think it was a very good idea,” she said. “And I started getting dressed, and all of a sudden a bird smacked into the double pane window… I was so emotional.”
Del Rey’s shift in both sound and style underscores her evolving artistic narrative as she ventures further into country music territory. Fans eagerly await further details on the new album and its eventual release.
