Actress Hayden Panettiere, known for her roles in films like “Scream,” recently took to Instagram to showcase her latest bold hair transformation. The 34-year-old star, who had previously made the switch from blonde to pink locks, unveiled a captivating blend of pink and green hues in her most recent Instagram post.

This stunning transformation might come as a surprise to some, but Panettiere’s relationship with her hair has been marked by personal struggles. In a candid interview with Women’s Health in March, she disclosed her battles with severe hair loss, which she attributed to her past struggles with alcohol addiction.

Panettiere’s battle with alcohol addiction began when she was just 22, as a means to cope with stress. By 2014, following the birth of her daughter, Kaya, she was grappling with postpartum depression and a neck injury, leading her to turn to alcohol to manage her anxiety and opioid pills to address her physical pain.

Reflecting on those challenging times, she said, “I should have gone on antidepressants [to cope with the postpartum depression], but you have to find the right one that works for you. They don’t mix well with alcohol, and I wasn’t ready to stop drinking.”

In 2015, while working on the television series “Nashville,” Panettiere checked into a treatment center for the first time. Despite her ongoing career in Hollywood, which included roles in “Nashville” and “Custody,” she experienced relapses.

In an effort to manage her stress and anxiety, she took a hiatus from acting in 2018, but her battle with alcohol continued. By the time she reached her 30s, she recognized the toll her alcohol addiction was taking on her physical health, including facial swelling, jaundice, yellowing of her eyes, unexplained weight gain, and thinning hair.

Panettiere also disclosed her struggles with sleep deprivation during this period, a result of her alcohol addiction. “Sleep is massive. It affects your motor skills, your ability to think, and your overall health,” she explained.

In 2021, she took a significant step towards recovery by seeking professional help, enrolling in a 12-step program, and undergoing intensive trauma therapy.

Since her treatment in 2021, Panettiere has reported improved mental health, stating, “It’s an everyday battle and one that today I am happy to say I am winning,” during her interview with Women’s Health.

More recently, Panettiere has made a return to acting and rejoined the “Scream” franchise for its sixth installment. During promotional appearances for the film, she shared on “Good Morning America” that she had prioritized her mental, physical, and spiritual well-being before returning to Hollywood, expressing her excitement about rejoining the iconic horror series.
