Lorraine Bracco Embraces the Silver Lining: ‘Sopranos’ Star Shares Love for the Benefits of Going Gray

by Madonna

Television fans were in for a pleasant surprise at the 75th Emmy Awards when Lorraine Bracco, alongside Michael Imperioli, graced the event to celebrate the iconic series, “The Sopranos.” However, some viewers may have found the stars unrecognizable, as both have embraced their natural gray hair.

The 69-year-old actress, known for her role as Dr. Melfi in “The Sopranos,” revealed exclusively to Page Six Style that the decision to go silver was a result of the COVID-19 pandemic. Bracco expressed her joy in not having to spend hours in the salon, a sentiment shared by many who have reevaluated beauty routines during the pandemic.

Bracco is part of a growing trend among celebrities who have chosen to let go of hair dye, and fellow star Andie MacDowell is one such example. The “Four Weddings and a Funeral” actress proudly showcases a full head of silver tresses, attributing her decision to her sister’s stunning silver hair.

Reflecting on her time on the iconic mob series, Bracco shared with Page Six Style that her favorite memory was working with James Gandolfini, who portrayed Tony Soprano in the HBO show. Describing him as brilliant, fun, creative, and everything a partner in crime could want, Bracco reminisced about the bittersweet nature of reunions, given Gandolfini’s passing in 2013 from a heart attack at the age of 51.

Despite the poignant moments, Bracco remains active, with regular visits to her house in Sambuca, Sicily, at least twice a year. She humorously summarized her feelings about starring in two iconic mob projects, “The Sopranos” and “Goodfellas,” stating, “F—king lucky,” showcasing her enduring humor and gratitude for her illustrious career.
