Dallas-based salon expands its footprint into Houston, catering to the needs of women with highly textured hair. Piersten Gaines, a Columbia and Harvard Business School graduate, identified a gap in the market and envisioned a transformative salon experience dedicated to women of color. Focused on efficiency and quality, Gaines aimed to redefine hair care accessibility.
Expressing dissatisfaction with past salon experiences, Gaines emphasized the disparity between the level of service and the financial investment made by Black women. Inspired to address this gap, she conceptualized Pressed Roots, a luxurious salon specializing in natural, silky blowouts for textured hair.
Drawing acclaim from notable figures like Kevin O’Leary from “Shark Tank,” Gaines brought her vision to life. Starting with pop-up events in cities like Boston and Atlanta, she eventually rooted her first permanent location in Dallas’ Trinity Grove neighborhood in 2020. Buoyed by initial success, Gaines expanded with two more salons in Dallas before setting her sights on Houston.
Pressed Roots’ inaugural Houston location, situated in the Centre at Post Oak shopping center, is set to open its doors on May 9. Gaines, addressing her target audience of “highly-textured girls” on the salon’s website, envisions Pressed Roots as a haven for fast yet healthy hair care experiences. She highlights the rigorous training program undergone by her stylists, ensuring expertise in delivering the perfect blowout for every hair type.
Spanning nearly 2,000 square feet, the salon boasts a team of 50 stylists and an aesthetic characterized by soft pink and brown tones. With a commitment to quality, all stylists undergo proprietary training, promising consistency in service delivery.
Pressed Roots offers a comprehensive range of services, including signature silk blowouts in various styles tailored to individual preferences. Clients undergo an online hair quiz upon booking to determine their specific needs, with further consultation provided by stylists during appointments. With a target time frame of 120 minutes, services encompass washing, conditioning, and styling.
For those seeking privacy, VIP stations are available upon request. Additionally, clients have access to a curated selection of stylist-approved products and tools for at-home maintenance, ensuring long-lasting results between salon visits.
