Matt Dillon, 60, proudly showcased his gray hair at the Cannes Film Festival.
The actor appeared on the Cannes red carpet on Wednesday, May 22, for the photocall of his film “Being Maria.” Dillon wore dark jeans, a navy T-shirt, a navy blazer, and black sneakers, with his salt-and-pepper hair drawing significant attention. He also sported a bit of stubble and a trimmed mustache.
On Tuesday, May 21, Dillon attended the premiere of “Marcello Mio,” dressed more formally in a navy tuxedo and bow tie.
“Being Maria” is a biographical drama about French actress Maria Schneider, played by Anamaria Vartolomei. The film depicts Schneider’s experience in the 1972 film “The Last Tango in Paris,” which faced controversy for its explicit content. Dillon portrays Marlon Brando, Schneider’s co-star in the film.
The synopsis on the Cannes website describes Schneider’s story: “Maria is a young, struggling actress with promise. When an emerging Italian director casts her in a new film alongside an American superstar, her dreams seem to be coming true. But what appears to be a big break turns into a nightmare. That movie is ‘The Last Tango in Paris.’ The actress is Maria Schneider.”
Dillon recently attended a Broadway performance of “The Outsiders,” a musical adaptation of S. E. Hinton’s 1967 novel. Dillon played Dallas “Dally” Winston in the 1983 film adaptation directed by Francis Ford Coppola. The film also starred C. Thomas Howell, Patrick Swayze, Rob Lowe, Tom Cruise, and Diane Lane.
During his April 3 visit to Broadway, Dillon posed for several group photos with the cast and crew, including producers Angelina Jolie and her 15-year-old daughter Vivienne. Jolie praised her daughter in a statement obtained by PEOPLE, saying, “Viv reminds me of my mother in that she isn’t focused on being the center of attention but in being a support to other creatives. She’s very thoughtful and serious about theatre and working hard to best understand how to contribute.”
Dillon also took a smaller group photo with the musical’s core cast, including Sky Lakota-Lynch, Kevin William Paul, Brent Comer, Joshua Boone, Joshua Schmidt, and Brody Grant, along with Jolie.
In photos taken just a few weeks before his Cannes appearance, Dillon’s hair appeared to have fewer gray streaks.
