Laverne D. Cosby has always had a natural talent for cosmetology. Born in Sandersville, Georgia, she moved to Milledgeville in 2012. Cosby has been a cosmetologist since 2008 and graduated from barber school in 2009. She has been a business owner since 2008.
Cosby believes her hairstyling skills are a gift and feels grateful for them. Her first skill in the profession was braiding. Along with business partner Demetria L. Primas, she runs Von Lee Denise Salon in Milledgeville, which opened full-time in 2017.
Settling in Milledgeville, Cosby felt it was logical to start her business there. Located at 511 N. Cobb St., Suite 8, the salon offers various services. It is a natural salon certified in non-surgical hair replacement and as a Sisterlocks consultant and loctician. The salon provides non-surgical hair loss treatments and comprehensive hair care for clients with hair loss due to alopecia.
Appointments at Von Lee Denise Salon are booked online via their website, vonleedenise.com, with no walk-ins accepted. The salon operates on Mondays and Fridays from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m., on Tuesdays and Wednesdays from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., on Thursdays from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., and on Saturdays from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m., with Cosby available every other Saturday.
The salon also features Evelyn & Ida LLC Boutique, offering a range of accessories available exclusively to in-person customers.
On May 24, the Milledgeville-Baldwin Chamber celebrated Von Lee Denise Salon with a ribbon-cutting ceremony. Cosby described the event as an outstanding experience and expressed gratitude for the support from the Milledgeville community.
