This week, a new law took effect in Minnesota, mandating cosmetologists to be trained in cutting and styling textured hair. Minnesota is now the fourth state to implement such a requirement.
Research by Pivot Point, a hair education company, reveals that 65 percent of people in the U.S. have textured hair. Despite this, not all stylists are proficient in handling this hair type.
Valencia Montgomery Johnson, a cosmetology educator at Aveda Arts and Sciences Institutes, testified at the state Capitol in favor of the bill. She discussed the new law with MPR News host Cathy Wurzer.
