A Northamptonshire studio, Dye Hair Studio, has been named the ‘best colour salon’ in the UK at a prestigious hair and beauty awards ceremony. The studio, located in Guilsborough, was launched by Amy Smith in July 2022 and is now recognized nationally for its expertise in vivid and bright hair colours.
Amy decided to start her own business after her daughter began school, giving her the time she needed as a single parent. Before that, she found more security working in various salons across the county.
With 17 years of experience, Amy felt ready to open her studio two years ago. She specializes in bold, bright, and vivid colours, as well as colour correction and scalp bleaching.
“The response has been really good,” Amy said about her business. She mentioned having a loyal client base that continues to support her despite the studio’s rural location. Her clients appreciate the quiet, private environment she provides, especially those who worry about being judged in mainstream salons. Amy takes pride in creating an inclusive, safe, and welcoming space for her non-binary customers.
Recently, Dye Hair Studio was awarded Best Colour Salon at the UK Hair and Beauty Awards. “It’s amazing because it’s my absolute favourite thing to do. I love it. It feels nice to be recognized for something I’m passionate about,” Amy said.
Looking to the future, Amy hopes to offer colour education to other hairdressers. She believes the recognition from the award will help her continue the success she has already achieved. “It’s lovely to have an award, but your work speaks for itself,” she added. “I hope it will continue to add to the good success I’ve already had.”
