DANVILLE — Bowman Studios, a new hair salon in downtown Danville, has been awarded a $5,000 grant by Downtown Danville Inc. (DDI).
Located at 149 N. Vermilion St., Bowman Studios offers a variety of services including hair treatments, skincare, and hair extensions. The grant from DDI was used to install new flooring and signage.
Emily Tranchant, the owner of Bowman Studios, and her husband, Tanner, bought the building in July 2023. The building previously housed DDI’s offices and served as a co-working space.
For nearly a year, the couple has been dedicated to renovating the space. Their improvements included repainting the exterior, installing a new door, and putting up new signage. Inside, they transformed the front office space into a bright and inviting hair salon with wash basins and new lighting. They also converted old offices into service rooms and plan to turn the old law library into an employee lounge.
DDI, a membership organization funded by the Special Service Area No. 1 taxing district, provides grants to property owners in the district for building improvements.
“Our goal is to empower our members to improve their properties,” said DDI Executive Director Annie Monyok. “Our grants match their investment, up to $5,000, supporting new businesses like Bowman Studios. This building was once the home of Downtown Danville Inc., and we are thrilled with the beautiful renovation Emily and Tanner have accomplished.”
DDI’s mission is to drive sustainable growth in downtown Danville by supporting businesses, funding grants, creating collaboration opportunities, and implementing initiatives to enhance the area’s appeal and economic prosperity. The grant program helps businesses within the SSA of downtown with maintenance, upkeep, and expansion.
