Native American Teen Breaks Guinness World Record for Longest Hair

A Native American teenager from South Dakota has achieved the Guinness World Record for having the longest hair among male teens, proudly representing his tribe on a global scale.

Seventeen-year-old Reuben Looks Twice Jr has not had a haircut since he was two years old. According to an interview on the Guinness World Records website, his parents initially refrained from cutting his hair due to his fear of clippers.

Reuben’s hair now measures an impressive 161cm long. He maintains this length in adherence to his Lakota tribe’s cultural tradition, where long hair holds spiritual significance. “Culturally, Lakota people have long hair. It’s part of our nagi (spirit). It’s who I am,” he stated, expressing pride in representing his family and tribe.

Despite the accolade, Reuben acknowledges challenges associated with his long locks, such as getting caught in car doors and shower knobs. His haircare routine is meticulous, taking 20 minutes to shampoo and condition, an hour to dry, and another 10 minutes to detangle, brush, and style into a braid.

To officially secure the record, Reuben visited a salon where his hair was carefully washed, brushed, and laid out on a table for measurement. The average of three measurements confirmed his place in history, surpassing the previous record holder from India.

Looking ahead, Reuben has no intentions of cutting his hair. Upon turning 18, he aims to qualify for the Guinness World Record in the “longest hair on a living man” category, currently awaiting a contender.
