A new upscale hair salon combining cocktails with luxury cuts has opened its doors in Aspinwall, attracting a diverse crowd to its recent soft-opening celebration on July 21. Tonic Salon, located at 339 First St., near Brilliant Avenue, welcomed guests with champagne and Italian spirits, setting the tone for what owner Marcus Garcia describes as a unique hair experience.
“We do things differently here. It’s about the entire experience, creating an environment that enhances the visit,” Garcia explained.
This marks the third Tonic Salon in the Pittsburgh area, following their flagship in Wexford and a private salon in Lawrenceville/Bloomfield. Garcia and his partner, professional photographer Adam Milliron, relocated to Aspinwall a year ago, drawn to its comfort and ease.
The salon, situated in a former bank, features distinctive elements like two original vaults repurposed into grooming stations. One vault, named The Vault, caters specifically to men’s grooming with a classic barber chair, while the other, Little T’s, provides a kid-friendly atmosphere.
Reflecting Garcia and Milliron’s travels and tastes, the salon’s decor blends old-money opulence with a touch of Palm Springs flair, showcasing pink and gold accents, retro-modern lighting, and exposed brick walls for an industrial chic ambiance.
“We aimed for a blend of sexy and approachable,” Garcia remarked.
Services at Tonic Salon range from $40 to $150, covering everything from color and cutting to extensions and keratin treatments. The salon also emphasizes inclusivity and comfort, offering adult clients a variety of beverages including wines, coffees, teas, and spirits.
Stylist Olivia Barger, impressed by Tonic’s sleek yet inviting atmosphere, highlighted the salon’s commitment to providing a comfortable space for all clients, including children who might find traditional salons overwhelming.
“Aspinwall Mayor Joe Noro welcomed Tonic Salon to the borough, expressing confidence in the community’s support for the new business.
“We’re thrilled Tonic Salon chose Aspinwall. I’m sure our community will embrace them,” Noro said.
Looking ahead, Garcia expressed enthusiasm about Tonic Salon becoming a community hub where people can unwind, rejuvenate, and feel their best.
“We’re excited to be a place where everyone can relax and leave feeling beautiful,” Garcia said. “We can’t wait to welcome you.”
