A Bengaluru woman’s concerns about severe hair loss, which she attributes to the city’s hard water, have sparked a lively discussion on social media platform X. Amisha Aggarwal, a Google software engineer, expressed her frustration, even considering using RO (reverse osmosis) water for hair washing to prevent further damage. She also asked for recommendations on water-softening solutions.
In response, Alt News co-founder Mohammed Zubair humorously pointed out that he hasn’t experienced hair loss despite using Cauvery water. Aggarwal speculated that her hair might still be adjusting to Bengaluru’s water and weather conditions, prompting many users to share their own experiences regarding water quality and its impact on hair health.
One user, Sinfan, mentioned that the high Total Dissolved Solids (TDS) levels in Bengaluru’s water had caused premature graying, and he lamented that the well water from his hometown was far superior. Others from cities like Hyderabad and Delhi shared similar frustrations, noting that water quality in these areas also affected their hair health. Akshansh Mahendra added that cities like Delhi and Hyderabad face significant water issues, unlike Mumbai and Guwahati.
As the conversation continued, some users offered solutions, including a patented integrated water-softening showerhead and a water purifier specifically designed for bathing. One user humorously suggested that hair loss might simply be part of the city’s “CTC” (cost to company), while another reflected on their receding hairline as a souvenir from their college days in Bengaluru.
