SHANGHAI, Aug. 20, 2024 — On August 19, Pantene hosted its second annual hair science summit at Shanghai’s Aurora Museum, following the event’s launch in 2023. This year’s summit marked another significant step for the brand in advancing haircare science and pursuing innovation. During the event, Pantene presented its latest research on repairing damaged hair and introduced a groundbreaking high-definition microscopic bio-imaging technology. This new technology allows for detailed images of a hair’s internal structure, demonstrating for the first time that Pro-vitamin B5 (Pro-V B5) and lipidol ingredients in Pantene products can penetrate deep into damaged hair to facilitate repair. Pantene also introduced the experts from its Pantene Hair Science Institute, which aims to unite global researchers in a new era of haircare.

Pantene, recognized as the world’s most popular haircare brand, was the first to identify the protective and reparative properties of Pro-V B5. It remains the only haircare brand certified by the Swiss Vitamin Institute (SVI). For 82 years, Pantene has focused on haircare, consistently applying the latest research findings to its products. The brand prioritizes understanding consumer needs and uses scientific methods to address them, reinforcing the trust consumers place in it. Luan Lan, General Manager of Pantene China, stated, “Every scientific breakthrough we achieve reflects our commitment to providing healthy, beautiful hair for consumers. At Pantene, we are dedicated to leveraging science to enhance the beauty of our customers’ hair.”

Last year, Dr. Jennifer Marsh, Pantene’s Global Chief Research Scientist, presented her findings on how small molecules protect and repair the hair core at the International Federation of Societies of Cosmetic Chemists (IFSCC) conference. This year, her team further explored the synergistic mechanisms behind hair damage at the core level. Dr. Lai Wei, a dermatologist and hair expert from the Third Affiliated Hospital of Sun Yat-sen University, elaborated on this discovery at the summit, noting, “While hair damage is visible, the core damage that underlies it is often overlooked yet crucial. Pantene’s research into core-level hair damage enables the development of superior haircare solutions that address both surface and internal damage. It is essential to choose small-molecule ingredients that can truly penetrate the hair core for effective repair.”
