In a notable expansion, the 2025 Make-Up Artists and Hair Stylists Guild Awards (MUAHS) will for the first time include Broadway productions among its categories. The MUAHS, which recognizes excellence in hair and makeup design across film, television, commercials, and theater, is represented by Local 706, a union for California-based artisans under the International Alliance of Theatrical Stage Employees (IATSE), while the New York City chapter is known as Local 798.
Previously, theater achievements were honored under categories for Best Make-Up and Best Hair Styling in Theatrical Productions (Live Stage). This year, those categories have been restructured to create the new category: Best Make-Up and Hair Styling in a Broadway and International Live Theater Production. In this category, makeup and hair styling will be evaluated together, with no separate awards for each discipline. Additionally, a new category for Best Make-Up and Best Hairstyling in a California Regional Live Theater Production has been introduced.
To qualify for consideration, productions must open during the 2024 calendar year and are required to submit a video clip. The deadline for submissions is November 1, with nominees across 23 categories set to be announced on December 10. Complete eligibility and voting rules are available through the MUAHS.
The 12th annual MUAHS ceremony is scheduled for February 15, 2025, at the Fairmont Century Plaza Hotel in Los Angeles.
