The controversy erupted following a post promoting mental health resources from her hair cosmetics brand, Good Dye Young, which initially received positive feedback. However, the conversation quickly shifted as former employees began to share their negative experiences, claiming they had faced toxic behavior that led some to require therapy.
In the comments section of Williams’ mental health post, several individuals accused the salon of deleting comments from ex-workers detailing their negative experiences. These accusations escalated as more commenters—some without any affiliation to the salon—demanded clarification. They criticized Williams for what they perceived as a dissonance between her mental health advocacy and the alleged toxic environment at Fruits Hair Lab.
In response, Williams took to Instagram to defend her character and clarify her role at the salon. She stated, “I have interacted with stylists at our salon only a handful of times. I co-founded and funded the salon but I am not the boss, nor do I even have a job title there.” She emphasized that a manager had been hired from the beginning to oversee operations since she and her co-founder, Brian, are rarely present in Nashville.
Williams further claimed that after a group of employees left the salon, the remaining stylists reported a more positive environment, challenging the notion of a toxic workplace. She stated, “Do with that what you will,” and insisted that neither she nor anyone from Good Dye Young deleted any comments made on her post.
Towards the end of her statement, Williams highlighted a recent initiative taken by her team to enhance mental health support for employees. She shared that starting November 1, their health insurance would include unlimited mental health services. “If keeping that private was performative, well then fuck me I guess,” she remarked, underscoring her commitment to employee welfare.
Amidst the salon controversy, Williams also provided an update on Paramore’s music. She revealed that the band has been working on new material, recently recording at Clouds Hill studio in Hamburg. Williams expressed excitement about the new direction of their music, describing it as a departure from their previous work.
The band’s most recent album, This Is Why, released in 2023, received critical acclaim, including a four-star rating from NME. The review praised the band for uncovering a new warmth in their sound, marking a significant evolution in their musical journey.
