The National Institute of Dramatic Art (NIDA) has announced a new partnership with Netflix to offer fully funded places in an upcoming five-day Hair and Make-Up for Screen short course specifically for First Nations people.
Set to begin in January 2025, the course aims to provide aspiring hair and make-up artists with essential insights into their roles within the screen industry. Netflix will fund five places in the course for First Nations individuals and people of color. Additionally, travel and accommodation support will be available for applicants residing outside of Sydney.
This initiative offers a unique opportunity for participants to learn from industry professionals at NIDA’s renowned Sydney campus in Kensington.
Travis Cardona, NIDA’s Director of First Nations and Outreach, emphasized the importance of increasing representation from First Nations and diverse communities in hair and make-up artistry.
“Behind-the-scenes roles, like those in the make-up department, are crucial to storytelling in both film and theatre,” Cardona stated. “Their expertise and lived experience are vital for authentically representing the rich diversity of skin tones, hair textures, and cultural identities we see on screens and stages.”
