SINGAPORE – Actress and model Sheila Sim is embracing a new chapter in her personal journey after undergoing a two-day hair transplant procedure to address a long-standing hair thinning issue.
The 40-year-old shared her experience with her followers on Instagram Stories on November 6, revealing that she had been dealing with thinning hair since starting her modeling career in 2001. She explained that the cause of her bald spot was due to a habit from her youth of plucking her hair.
In the post, Sim showed images of her thinning crown and bald spots, areas she had typically covered with hair fibers. “These were my thinning areas and bald spots that were usually covered up with hair fibres,” she wrote, providing a candid look at the challenges she had faced.
The following day, Sim updated her followers with a photo showcasing the shaved areas at the back of her head and the small puncture holes from where the hair follicles were transplanted. “What I did today – 1,601 grafts,” she revealed, adding that she felt “very groggy” after taking painkillers following the procedure.
On November 8, she posted a video of herself wearing a beanie as she made her way to the clinic for the second day of her hair transplant. Her husband, Deon Woo, a credit specialist in banking, and their two daughters, Layla (4) and Skyla (1½), accompanied her. Sim described the discomfort from the procedure as manageable, rating it “about three or four” on a scale of 10.
Sim also expressed her gratitude to her doctor and the medical team, sharing a photo of her bandaged head in an Instagram post. Standing at 1.74m tall, she mentioned that her height had helped to conceal the thinning spots, though they were more noticeable when seated. “The secret I’ve been carefully hiding on the crown of my head becomes visible,” she noted.
Addressing her decision to undergo the procedure, Sim admitted it had been both exciting and nerve-wracking, but she is confident in her choice. She looks forward to sharing her transformation with her followers over the coming months, and humorously teased that once she’s feeling better, she may even host an Instagram Live session to update fans on her progress.
Sim’s openness about her hair loss and the steps she has taken to resolve it have resonated with many, as she continues to inspire others with her authenticity and determination.
