Dawson, known for his role as Darren Osborne on the Channel 4 soap, revealed that the procedure was carried out at the British Hair Clinic in Cheshire. In his post, the actor explained that his hairline had been receding for years, but he had delayed the decision due to concerns about the potential for pain, poor results, and unnatural outcomes, which had been reported by friends who had sought similar treatments abroad or at other clinics in the UK.
“I’d noticed my hairline receding for years but kept delaying it,” Dawson shared. “Mainly because my friends who’d been abroad or to other clinics in the UK had bad experiences of pain, poor results, and unnatural-looking hairlines.”
He also acknowledged the support from his Hollyoaks bosses, who allowed him to take time off for the surgery. Fans had recently noticed him wearing a hat on-screen, a detail now explained by Dawson’s recovery from the procedure.
One fan on Reddit pointed out, “So this is why Darren has been wearing a hat,” while another expressed support, commenting, “Good for him.”
In recent weeks, Dawson’s character, Darren Osborne, has been at the heart of a gripping storyline. His on-screen daughter, Frankie Osborne (Isabelle Smith), bravely confided in him about the abuse she had endured for years at the hands of her twin brother, JJ (Ryan Mulvey). Following a significant time jump on the soap, Frankie is now seeking justice, but JJ is attempting to discredit her by claiming she is lying, using the death of their mother, Suzanne Ashworth (Suzanne Hall), to influence the case.
A shocking twist has since revealed that JJ has been diagnosed with leukaemia, throwing the future of the legal battle into uncertainty.
Dawson recently spoke to Digital Spy about the intense storyline, calling it “one of the most incredible stories I’ve ever been part of.”
