Meghan Markle is once again using her platform to uplift women and support causes that matter, this time by investing in a Black-owned brand that is revolutionizing hair wellness. The Duchess of Sussex has officially joined forces with Highbrow Hippie, a brand focused on hair care and wellness, co-founded by her longtime hair colorist, Kadi Lee, and entrepreneur Myka Harris.
Founded in 2012 as a lifestyle blog, Highbrow Hippie has evolved into a full-scale wellness brand that integrates beauty with science. The company’s new product line includes a scalp serum and a hair supplement designed to address hair thinning and hormonal changes. These products aim to support hair health from the inside out, tackling the root causes of hair issues rather than just treating the symptoms.
The official announcement of Markle’s investment came during a launch event for the brand’s new products on November 14, 2024, at Gjelina, a popular restaurant in Venice. Markle, who attended the event alongside other beauty industry insiders, also presented Lee with a bouquet of roses from her Montecito garden, symbolizing their longstanding friendship and connection.
“I am so proud to invest in Kadi as a friend and as a female founder,” Markle told InStyle in an interview. “Kadi has a mastery of hair health, and her Highbrow Hippie collection is a perfect reflection of that.”
For Markle, this investment is not just about backing a high-quality product—it’s about supporting a Black woman-owned business and highlighting the importance of women investing in each other. Her involvement with Highbrow Hippie is part of her broader effort to make a meaningful impact in the beauty and wellness industries. This is not the first time she has supported women entrepreneurs; Markle has also invested in ventures like Cesta Collective, a sustainably sourced handbag brand, and is developing her own project, the American Riviera Orchard.
Highbrow Hippie’s co-founders, Lee and Harris, bring decades of industry experience to the brand. Lee, with over 25 years in the business, has worked with some of Hollywood’s most recognizable figures. Together, she and Harris have created a brand that resonates with women who view hair care not only as a beauty routine but as an integral part of their wellness journey. The brand’s products promise fuller, healthier hair within three months, offering solutions for a range of concerns from postpartum shedding to stress-induced hair loss.
Markle’s decision to invest in Highbrow Hippie underscores a powerful narrative: when women support other women, especially in spaces where representation is often lacking, the results can be transformative. Through her investment, Markle is helping to amplify a Black woman-owned business that is making waves in the beauty and wellness sector.
