In a move that reflects the growing trend of “skinification” in hair care—where specialized products and detailed routines from skin care are applied to hair care—a new, first-of-its-kind medicated dry shampoo is now available for pre-order.
Developed by dermatology physician assistant Erica Ramos DMSc, RestoraScalp is designed to both refresh the hair and scalp while addressing common scalp conditions such as dandruff, seborrheic dermatitis, and psoriasis. The product works by absorbing oils, leaving the scalp feeling clean without the need for frequent washes.
Ramos, who created the product to provide a solution for individuals who need a balance between scalp health and styling, explained that RestoraScalp “stays on long enough to treat the scalp effectively, while allowing users to extend the time between washes without compromising scalp health.”
The new product, which is both vegan and cruelty-free, comes in light and dark formulas to cater to different hair types. It also boasts a range of beneficial ingredients, including rice starch, chamomile, olive leaf extract, arrowroot, cranberry seed powder, allantoin, kaolin, green tea, and salicylic acid.
Beyond its primary function of oil absorption, RestoraScalp also promises to enhance volume, protect the hair from UV damage, reduce scalp itching, and provide oil control without drying out the hair.
This innovative product marks the first release from Raven Innovations, a pharmaceutical company founded by Ramos. The company is focused on developing over-the-counter dermatology products to offer effective solutions for common skin and scalp issues.
