Camila Cabello recently shared her experience with platinum blonde hair, revealing it caused significant damage to her locks. During a conversation at the Tribeca Festival’s Art Basel Miami Beach event on December 8, the singer, who’s now back to dark brunette, explained that while she initially enjoyed the blonde look, the constant touch-ups took a toll.
“I did love being blonde in the beginning,” Cabello said, but quickly added that her hair began to feel dry and damaged. She admitted she didn’t realize the extent of the damage that comes with frequent bleaching, especially for dark hair like hers. “Going blonde is only sustainable for a few months,” she noted.
Reflecting on the process, Cabello revealed that she wished someone had warned her about the harmful effects of long-term bleaching. “There’s a three-shade maximum,” she explained. “Anything beyond that fries your hair.”
Though it will take time to restore her hair’s health, Cabello reassured fans that it’s looking good now, thanks to “a lot of tricks.” She also shared that her platinum transformation was initially kept under wraps with a wig until the big reveal, calling the experience “painful.”
Her stylist, Lee, added that the goal was always to keep her hair healthy, even while pushing for a bold 2024 moment.
