Elle Fanning brought a retro flair to the premiere of A Complete Unknown, the new Bob Dylan biopic, sporting a white Gucci column gown paired with playful, mod-inspired pigtails. The actress, 26, looked reminiscent of a young Goldie Hawn, who often wore similar pigtails in the ’60s.
Hairstylist Jenda Alcorn created the look, which was inspired by the iconic beehive hairstyle of the ’60s. The style drew from the likes of Goldie Hawn, Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis, and Brigitte Bardot, with Bardot being a primary influence. Alcorn added a youthful twist by teasing the crown for volume and securing the pigtails with Gucci’s crystal hair ties and a sparkling bow barrette.
To achieve the look, Alcorn prepped Fanning’s hair with L’Oréal EverPure shampoo and conditioner, followed by the EverPure Sulfate-Free 21-in-1 Color Caring Spray. Dry Shampoo was added at the roots for volume, and a mist of Elnett Hairspray set the style in place.
Fanning’s hairstyle perfectly complemented her role in A Complete Unknown, where she portrays Sylvia, a character inspired by Suze Rotolo, Bob Dylan’s muse. Alcorn, along with makeup artist Erin Ayanian Monroe, also crafted Fanning’s graphic cat eyes and dusty rose makeup for a modern take on a vintage look.
“I love working with Elle because she mixes classic inspiration with fresh, innovative ideas,” says Alcorn. “She has a great sense of style and always knows exactly what details will make a look stand out.”
