Ecoslay, founded by Adria Marshall, has become a standout in the natural hair care market with its eco-conscious, handcrafted products designed for curly and coily hair. Frustrated by the lack of products that suited her hair type and aligned with her values, Marshall began creating her own formulations in her kitchen using ingredients from a local farmer’s market. What started with just $300 in personal savings quickly grew into a multi-million-dollar business after a viral review of her Orange Marmalade Curl Definer product.
Ecoslay is rooted in Marshall’s childhood, where gardening and a deep respect for nature shaped her values. Since launching in 2015, the brand has expanded its offerings to include moisturizing cleansers, conditioners, curl-defining gels, and hot oil treatments. Despite its growth, all Ecoslay products are still made in-house to maintain quality and sustainability, with a focus on minimal preservatives and locally-sourced ingredients like okra and flaxseed.
Marshall’s commitment to sustainability goes beyond just hair care. The Ecoslay Foundation provides employment opportunities and support for homeless and minority communities in Atlanta, and the brand runs the Ecobator program to assist small, environmentally-friendly businesses. Marshall is optimistic about recent regulatory changes in the beauty industry, including the Modernization of Cosmetics Regulation Act (MoCRA), which she believes will help hold brands accountable for their sustainability claims.
Ecoslay’s success is a testament to Marshall’s passion for natural hair care, environmental responsibility, and community support.
