Amika Mirrorball Shampoo Recall Due to Microbiological Risk

by Madonna

The Office for Product Safety and Standards (OPSS) has issued a recall for Amika Mirrorball High Shine + Protect Antioxidant Shampoo due to microbiological safety concerns. The shampoo, which does not meet regulatory requirements under the Cosmetic Products Enforcement Regulations 2013, has been withdrawn from sale. This recall affects all units of the Amika Mirrorball shampoo sold in 2023 and 2024, including all sizes and lot codes.

The product, sold in pink packaging as part of the Shine-O-Sphere Hair Care Set, may pose health risks due to the presence or potential presence of harmful bacteria, specifically Pseudomonas gergoviae (P. gergoviae). The contamination could cause a change in odour and, in rare cases, temporary irritation. The shampoo fails to comply with Regulation 1223/2009 of the European Union, which governs the safety of cosmetic products.

Amika has assured consumers that, while no serious adverse health events have been reported, those with weakened immune systems or broken skin could be more vulnerable to infection. Customers are urged to stop using the product immediately, even if there are no visible signs of contamination or a change in the product’s appearance.

No other Amika products are affected by the recall, and the company reassures consumers that they are working to ensure their stringent quality standards are met moving forward.
