A Louisville entrepreneur, Synamon Whaley, has developed a line of all-natural hair care products designed to help cancer patients and others facing hair loss. Whaley’s journey began when she sought natural solutions to improve her own hair health and was inspired to create products that would aid people with various hair-related issues, including those affected by cancer treatments.
Ira Porter, a cancer survivor, met Whaley after undergoing chemotherapy for non-Hodgkin lymphoma in 2021. His chemotherapy treatments left him with fragile, thinning hair, affecting his sense of identity. After being introduced to Whaley’s Canela’s Homemade Hair Care, Porter saw remarkable improvement in his hair regrowth, and his hair texture became stronger.
Whaley, who originally began experimenting with natural ingredients like eggs, fruits, and herbs in her kitchen, eventually expanded her operation into a full lab to produce her products. Her dedication to creating all-natural, cruelty-free products quickly earned her a reputation as “the hair doctor” among customers, and her products have been praised for helping people regrow their hair after chemotherapy, alopecia, eczema, lupus, and other conditions.
Whaley’s products are now available at Rainbow Blossom stores, Sum’n Special Studio, and other local businesses. She also donates her products to the Norton Women’s Cancer Center, helping even more cancer patients in their hair regrowth journey. Whaley believes her work serves a greater purpose—helping individuals regain their hair and, with it, their sense of self.
Hairstylist Summer Wood, who specializes in hair regrowth treatment, collaborates with Whaley to offer personalized plans for clients facing hair loss. Wood’s studio, Sum’n Special Studio, is a hub for both hair care and entrepreneurship, as she works to provide opportunities for local business growth.
For many, the regrowth of hair is not just a physical transformation—it is a return to their identity, confidence, and well-being. Whaley’s work continues to inspire and empower those on their hair regrowth journey.
