MYAVANA, a cutting-edge haircare technology company founded by Candace Victoria Mitchell, is bringing its innovative solutions to Africa. The company, initially launched with a $1,000 investment, has focused on providing personalized hair care, particularly for Black women, an underserved market in the beauty industry.
Mitchell’s vision was born from a gap in the market for products catering to textured hair. She recognized the need for a more tailored approach, deeply rooted in Black culture and identity, and aimed to offer personalized hair care solutions. “Hair is deeply connected to our purpose and identity, especially in Black culture. I wanted to ensure people could understand who they are through personalized technology,” Mitchell explained in an interview.
MYAVANA’s technological offerings include the MYAVANA HairAI, which provides an in-depth analysis of hair types and conditions to recommend personalized care plans. This analysis helps users customize their regimens with the right products and ingredients. Additionally, the MYAVANA HairScope™ device, used by stylists, allows users to identify scalp issues like build-up or breakage, which are then displayed on a screen for easy understanding.
The company is now making its way to Africa with the opening of MYAVANA Hair Lab in Uganda, marking its first retail location on the continent. This store will offer one-on-one consultations with hair experts, access to the HairAI™ technology, personalized product recommendations, and hair care education content. Customers will also find premium brands, including Black-owned businesses like Moisture Love, Texture Crush, Afro Unicorn, U Go Girl Hair, and LushUs Hair.
MYAVANA’s expansion into Africa highlights the growing demand for technology-driven beauty solutions that cater to personalized hair care needs. With its innovative approach, MYAVANA is setting a new standard for hair care services globally and empowering individuals to embrace their unique hair journeys.
