Model and influencer opens up about brutal recovery and impact on body image
March 26, 2025 — Model and social media influencer Remi Bader, 30, is speaking candidly about a lesser-discussed side effect of weight loss surgery: significant hair loss.
In a series of Instagram Stories shared on Thursday, Bader detailed her experience recovering from a single anastomosis duodenal-ileal bypass with sleeve gastrectomy (SADI-S)—a bariatric procedure that combines a sleeve gastrectomy with intestinal bypass to reduce calorie and fat absorption.
Responding to a fan who praised her hair’s appearance during recovery, Bader said the reality was far different behind the scenes. “Oh I lost so so much hair. Chunks daily,” she wrote, explaining that while she naturally had thick hair, the shedding became alarmingly noticeable. She also posted images of clumps of hair that had fallen out, saying the hair loss began roughly three months post-surgery and continued for several months.
Bader attributed the improvement in her hair condition to adjustments in her diet and nutrition. “It went on for a few months until I started focusing on having enough protein and my body started adjusting,” she said.
When another follower asked about hair supplements, Bader said there’s no single solution. “I was taking Nutrafol for a while, currently on Spironolactone. I hear Wellbell helps people. B12 shots. There isn’t really one answer for one person,” she explained.
Bader officially confirmed her weight loss surgery—first performed in December 2023—after months of speculation that she may have been taking medications like Ozempic, a diabetes drug increasingly used off-label for weight loss.
The surgery’s physical aftermath was intense, she shared, including six weeks of “projectile vomiting.” But beyond the physical challenges, Bader also spoke about the emotional toll of adjusting to her new body.
“I never wanted to be this size,” she admitted. “I’m probably the only person that’s ever gone to a doctor for weight loss to be like, ‘OK, but can I still be curvy?’ It’s really confusing to be so quickly in a different body but have the exact same brain.”
Bader joins a growing number of public figures sharing their unfiltered experiences with weight loss treatments and procedures, adding to a broader conversation about the long-term impacts, both physical and mental.
