SILVER SPRING, MD — April 21, 2025 — A long-standing hair salon in downtown Silver Spring has officially closed its doors, and the prime commercial space it once occupied is now available for lease.
Headlines Hair Designers, located on the ground floor of the Arrive Silver Spring apartment building at 8740 Georgia Avenue, ceased operations in December 2024 after nearly five decades in business. The salon, which opened in 1976, had become a staple of the community before shutting down abruptly last year.
The business was acquired in 2023 by Cornelius Payne, a licensed cosmetologist and realtor. In a farewell message, Payne thanked the salon’s clientele and community for their long-standing support.
“After careful consideration, we regret to inform you that Headlines Hair Designers has officially closed its doors,” the message read. “We want to take this moment to sincerely thank all of our clients, partners, and supporters for your trust and loyalty over the years. It has been a privilege to serve you.”
The now-vacant commercial unit is being marketed by Larry Rosen of Bethesda-based Commercial & Investment Realty Associates LLC. The available space includes two units ranging from approximately 1,375 to 1,618 square feet, offering a prime leasing opportunity in a high-traffic location just steps from the Silver Spring Metro.
