Since Sofia Richie Grainge took to TikTok to offer a glimpse into her behind-the-scenes fashion and beauty world during her wedding weekend, the internet has crowned her the newest “It Girl.” Her chic style and practical makeup routines have earned her this well-deserved title.
Most recently, Grainge invited us into her opulent bathroom for a step-by-step tutorial on creating her signature sleek and iconic bun. The video has already garnered over 2 million likes and has us reconsidering our reliance on sticky hairsprays. “I really appreciate you all thinking this is my chic hairstyle,” Grainge says, “but truth be told, this is my lazy girl hairstyle.”
Grainge begins the process by gently brushing through her hair lengths and generously applying UNITE Hair Detangler to her wet hair. She emphasizes the importance of achieving a precise center part, employing a fine rat-tail comb to create a straight middle section.
Instead of relying on messy gels and stiff hairsprays to achieve a sleek look, Grainge favors nourishing hair products that not only maintain the updo but also minimize potential damage. A nourishing mask, lightweight lotion, and reparative oil are her go-to choices.
“I need an oil and an Oribe lotion,” she explains. However, she attributes her “luxurious” hair health to her decision to substitute gel with a regenerating mask. Grainge evenly distributes the Christophe Robin Regenerating Mask with Prickly Pear Oil from her roots to the ends of her hair.
She then uses a fine-toothed comb to separate a front section of hair on each side, stopping just before the ears. She secures these sections in place with Emi Jay clips while she focuses on the back of her head.
After tying the main section into a ponytail, Grainge proceeds to use a Mason Pearson brush on the reserved front sections of her hair. She unclips one side and brushes the smaller section against her scalp to merge it seamlessly with the existing (and perfectly positioned) ponytail she had created. As she smooths out the sides, she employs a second tie to combine the front section with the larger back portion, repeating the same technique with the remaining front piece.
The bun takes shape as a result of a flawless blend of the two front sections, which Grainge secures in place with a thick hair tie.
The finishing touch involves using Oribe lotion and UNITE Hair Blonda Oil to tame any stray hairs and annoying flyaways, achieving the desired sleek effect.
“Because it started out wet, it’s secured onto your head like a helmet without the stickiness,” she explains as she proudly displays her impeccable bun. This hairstyle has quickly become a favorite, thanks to its use of hair-nourishing products and ease of execution.
