Sandy Liang’s SS24 collection made waves not only for its stunning dresses and bold floral earrings but also for the impeccable hair that graced the runway. If you found yourself wondering about the secret behind that beautiful sheen, look no further than BREAD Beauty Supply, a black-owned beauty brand that played a significant role in achieving the sleek hair looks, including deep side parts and braids.
Maeve Heim, the founder of BREAD Beauty Supply, was a natural choice for a collaboration with Sandy Liang, as she had been a long-time admirer of the brand. Heim shared her enthusiasm, stating, “The whimsical, effervescent nature of Sandy Liang fits so well with BREAD. It was a delight bringing her vision of a soft, wet look to life.”
To bring this vision to reality, the lead hairstylist for the show, Marin Mullen, initiated the styling process by gently detangling damp hair using Tangle Teezer’s The Ultimate Detangler. Many of the models sported a deep side part, adding an element of elegance to the overall look. Mullen then applied BREAD hair gel, using a brush to create a slick, polished effect. To achieve the wet look, she used Tangle Teezer’s Ultimate Styler to brush through BREAD’s hair oil. For the finishing touches, Mullen coated the hair with BREAD’s hair cream and added a final layer of hair oil, resulting in the glossiest of shines.
The end result was a nod to the “90s posh grunge aesthetic with a touch of dorkiness,” as described by Mullen. The goal was to create a look that is both attainable and aesthetically surprising, perfectly complementing Sandy Liang’s unique and whimsical fashion collection.
