In a bold move aimed at promoting Meta’s new Smart Glasses Collection in collaboration with Ray-Ban, Mark Zuckerberg has ventured into uncharted territory: learning to braid his daughter’s hair with the assistance of artificial intelligence.
In a video clip shared on Instagram, Zuckerberg utilizes the video recording feature incorporated within the smart glasses he is donning. He trains his camera on the back of his daughter’s head, posing the question, “Hey Meta, how do you make a braid?” In response, a friendly digital voice guides him through the process in three steps: brushing the hair, dividing it into three sections, crossing the right portion over the middle, then the left, and continuing the pattern.
Zuckerberg’s evident struggle while attempting to secure the end of the braid reveals his relative inexperience with the art of hairstyling, a task he had not previously undertaken for his three daughters. As a finishing touch, he instructs the glasses to capture an image of his handiwork and send it to his wife, Priscilla, who is likely preoccupied with co-managing the Chan Zuckerberg Initiative, the couple’s charitable organization.
It’s worth noting that the image Zuckerberg sent to his wife could have been snapped with a smartphone and conveyed via text message in just a few additional seconds, rendering the hands-free assistance of the glasses somewhat redundant.
An illustration of the Smart Glasses’ distinctive appeal could manifest differently, such as Zuckerberg being engaged in baking in the kitchen while his infant daughter takes a nap in close proximity. Rather than resorting to vocal queries directed at virtual assistants like Alexa or Siri, he quietly seeks the aid of Meta AI for guidance on ingredient measurements. With success, the baby remains undisturbed in slumber.
While he expertly deposits sticky cookie dough onto a baking sheet, Zuckerberg utilizes his Smart Glasses to photograph the dough portions and dispatch them to Priscilla with a message inquiring, “Are these the right size?” As the cookies bake in the oven, Zuckerberg employs the glasses to play music from Spotify. The glasses’ open design permits him to savor his music selection without rousing the baby or missing her cries of hunger when she awakens.
