Annapolis, Maryland – A harrowing incident unfolded on Monday afternoon when a Tesla vehicle crashed into a children’s hair salon in Annapolis, resulting in injuries to four individuals, including a child. The Anne Arundel County Police Department reported the incident.
The unsettling crash occurred around 3 p.m. at the Pigtails and Crewcuts: Haircuts for Kids establishment located in the Riva Shopping Center on Forest Drive. Emergency responders swiftly arrived at the scene in response to the collision.
According to authorities, three adults and a child, who happened to be a customer at the salon, sustained injuries as a result of the accident. Fortunately, the driver responsible for the crash remained at the scene and cooperated with law enforcement.
One of the hairstylists, who was in the midst of attending to a small toddler and their parents before the crash, recounted the terrifying moments leading up to the collision. The hairstylist, Shelly Paddy, explained that the driver was attempting to park in front of the salon when the vehicle unexpectedly jumped the curb and plowed into the building.
Paddy described the chaos that ensued, stating, “All of a sudden, this car comes flying through and we all just kind of ran up here. I don’t know what else to do.” The collision came to a halt inside the children’s play area within the salon, raising concerns about the potential for a more catastrophic outcome.
Reflecting on the incident, Paddy expressed gratitude that no one was harmed more severely, stating, “I think we’re all lucky that we weren’t in the crossfire because it could have been bad.”
Following the incident, the vehicle involved in the crash was towed from the scene, and a building inspector arrived to assess the damage sustained by the building. Subsequently, crews worked to secure the damaged area by boarding up the front of the unit with plywood.
In a neighboring establishment adjacent to the hair salon, a tutoring center, eyewitness Shane Ryan recounted how he witnessed the collision and then extended a helping hand. Ryan emphasized the importance of recognizing that accidents can occur and that safeguarding lives is paramount, acknowledging the role of insurance in addressing property damage. He remarked, “When accidents happen, you just have to be grateful they don’t result in anything too serious. The building will be okay. That’s what insurance is for. You can’t get insurance on someone’s life.”
An investigation into the circumstances of the crash is currently underway by local law enforcement authorities.
