Crowley Independent School District (CISD) is currently investigating a disturbing incident that occurred on November 9 at the North Crowley Ninth Grade Campus, resulting in a teacher being removed from the classroom.
The incident was brought to light through a Facebook post by Jessica Scroggins, whose son, Bremon Scroggins, reported a troubling encounter during school hours. According to Jessica, Bremon claimed that a teacher forcibly removed his hat, resulting in the pulling of his hair.
Bremon, a freshman at the school, recounted that the teacher instructed him to take off his beanie. Admitting that he did not comply immediately, Bremon said, “He walked up to me. He said, ‘If you don’t take it off, I’ll take it off for you and escort it to the office.’” Bremon described the ensuing physical altercation, stating, “He reached over, trying to pull my cap off my hair.”
The altercation occurred swiftly, with Bremon attempting to defend himself as the teacher allegedly wrestled with him, resulting in the removal of two of his dreadlocks. Remarkably, Bremon claimed he did not initially realize the extent of the incident. “I didn’t feel it. I didn’t feel my dreads out of my head,” he said.
Weeks later, evidence of the incident remains in the form of a bald spot and two missing dreadlocks. Jessica Scroggins has taken decisive action, filing a police report with the Crowley ISD Police Department and pursuing assault charges against the teacher.
Expressing her concern, Jessica stated, “It’s not okay for someone to put their hands on my child.” The incident has sparked a divisive response on social media, with varying opinions on who is at fault. Jessica, however, firmly believes that the teacher’s alleged actions are inexcusable.
In response to the incident, Crowley ISD issued a statement confirming that the teacher is currently on administrative leave pending the outcome of the investigation. The school district, citing its commitment to student safety, emphasized that the situation would be handled in accordance with district policy.
The spokesperson for CISD explained, “Due to the investigation, we cannot release the teacher’s name or the student’s name. We will handle this situation in accordance with district policy. The safety and well-being of our students is our top priority in Crowley ISD, and we are committed to providing a learning environment where all students can thrive.”
Jessica Scroggins hopes for a permanent removal of the teacher from the campus, asserting, “He shouldn’t be on the premises teaching these kids if he can handle his composure.” She also seeks an apology from the teacher for herself and her son, desiring clarity on the teacher’s mindset during the incident.
